Samsung SGH-T609
Score: 72% When: May 2006 Worth: $150 - $200 What: Samsung phones, T-Mobile phones
Packing in Bluetooth, EDGE support, memory expansion, world-phone capabilities and a music player, the Samsung SGH-T609 clamshell makes for a sleek and capable fashion handset. While we wouldn't have minded a color external LCD or, say, an equalizer to go with the slick-looking MP3 player, the T609’s sharp looks and smart feature set won us over. More...

Motorola PEBL
Score: 70% When: December 2005 Worth: $150 - $300 What: Motorola phones, Fashion phones
Now available in 10 different colours, the high-style oval design of the Motorola PEBL is a must have this spring. For a bag of peanuts, buyers get a travesty of a 0.3 Megapixel camera which should be used solely for MMS party pics, as well as a decent keypad which stands in stark contrast to the poor usability of the outdated and unintuitive user interface of the handset - a constant source of annoyance. Battery life is also a tad on the short side, with 2 hours of talk time and 4 days of standby.

Nokia 8801
Score: 60% When: July 2005 Worth: $550 - $800 What: Nokia phones, Fashion phones
There’s no doubt that the Nokia 8801 is one of the most elegant handsets we’ve ever tested, and we love its impressive syncing options, robust music player and bright display. But this stainless-steel gem is starting to show its age, especially when it comes to its sub-par camera and missing memory expansion, and it’s saddled with a staggering price tag and poor battery life. Nokia 7280
Score: 34% When: December 2004 Worth: $295 - $390 What: Nokia phones, Fashion phones
The Nokia 7280 bears no resemblence to an ordinary mobile phone, providing an Apple iPod-style scroll wheel for navigation and text input as opposed to a keypad. Being quite thin, it also sports a widescreen display. With its poor battery life and next to unusable text input, however, the Nokia 7280 does not come recommended as a daily-use mobile phone but rather as what it really is: a show-off piece of gadgetry. Kyocera Switch_Back
Score: 67% When: April 2006 Worth: $150 What: Messaging phones, Teen phones
No teen we know would turn down the compact, too-cool-for-school Switch_Back, and its solid thumbboard and impressive VGA camera certainly weigh in its favor. However, we can’t help but be disappointed by the phone’s lackluster messaging abilities, and its lack of conference calling is a key omission. If Virgin Mobile would support more IM clients and add three-way calling, we’d really have something here. More...
