The Accompli A6188 is one of the very first GSM communicators, and possibly Motorola's first real communicator product. I'll tell you what makes it tick.
Inside the box
The first thought that ran to mind when I opened the box the Motorola Accompli A6188 was kept in, was that it had an unusual form factor. It was very broad, and so it immediately appeared to be very large - but in fact it wasn't. Despite of the temporary illusion, the second look made me realize that the phone was in fact modestly sized considering the large screen and the functions crammed into it.
 | | A bit on the broad side, but still a very stylish phone | Accompanying the phone, there's two manuals - one in Chinese, and one in English. The reason to why the Chinese manual is in there, is that the A6188 never was intended to be anywhere outside the Asian market, but it looks like demand for this very unique communicator was too high just to ignore. We've talked to a large number people who have been dying to get their hands on the A6188, and this was probably the reason that the A6188 was brought to some countries outside Asia in limited quantities. Anyhow, the manual walks the user through all functions of the phone, complete with screenshots, and manages to be very helpful while keeping the size at a minimum.
Also inside the box is a charger, which like many other Motorola chargers makes use of exchangeable modules that connect to the main charger unit. These modules provide different power outlet interfaces for different countries, which lets you for instance purchase one interface for the U.S. and one for the U.K., enabling you to charge your phone easily in both countries just by switching between these small modules.
There's also a handsfree set, a leather carrying holster, an extra battery with the same capacity as the standard battery, a synchronization cradle and its serial cable, and software and manuals for Starfish' TrueSync synchronization software which powers synchronization between the A6188 and a PC.
