The 800-pound gorilla enters the market for petite and stylish headsets with its BH-800; we find out whether Nokia delivers the goods.

Review summary of the Nokia BH-800:

Nokia BH-800 As much a fashion accessory as it is a headset, Nokia's BH-800 mono Bluetooth headset puts on a good show despite its compact size. Its mediocre range and average battery life are likely both consequences of its design, while the rubber-encircled speaker insert is less so; still, comfort is quite good once the initial (and cumbersome) adaptation has been carried out, and the headset's easily-distinguished keys and good quality further contribute to a positive overall impression. Release: April 2006. Price: $150.
Pros: Superbly light; good audio quality; handles well
Cons: Mediocre range; cumbersome adaptation

Full review of the Nokia BH-800:
The smallest headset yet to emerge from Finland's woods, Nokia's BH-800 is a stylish contender which trades punches with among others Jabra's JX10, the Motorola Miniblue H5 and Nextlink's series of Bluespoon headsets.

Talking - Very good

Supporting both headset and handsfree profiles, making and taking calls is a breeze courtesy of a large, easily-distinguished multifunction button and a nifty volume rocker; audio quality is excellent, but the 3-meter range is mediocre.

Wearing - Very good

Although the initial adjustment of the BH-800's earloop is best carried out by a professional black-smit, the investment in time is well spent as the resulting fit is highly comfortable - although the rubber-encircled speaker insert isn't ideal.

Battery life - Very good

For a 9 g headset, around 4 hours of talk time and 5 days of standy is a pretty decent performance; we've seen better by similarly-sized competitors, but not by much.

Price and availability

The Nokia BH-800 will start selling for $150 () in April 2006.
