Introduction

OK, we confess: we're list-junkies. New year resolutions, present buying, travel destinations, daily to-dos, music and books, chores, favourite things - there's nothing we like better than writing things down, not least because it appeals to our inner procrastinator by deferring the actual thing we need to do. Ilium Software clearly understand this dark desire, and with ListPro offer a full-featured tool for creating and managing lists of all kinds.
Unfortunately, ListPro can't input all the data for you

Its capabilities are a lot more extensive than the piece of paper or notes application that most people use, of course. With ListPro users can manage multiple lists, each hierarchical and containing a customizable range of columns. Every item in every list can have a notes field, and although the satisfaction of crossing an item off on paper isn't quite present, ListPro compensates by offering a tasteful highlighting ability, too.

The application supports multiple column types, including an automatic date stamper and categories, as well as features one will never find on a piece of paper such as alarms, templates and functionality for managing data with filters, sorting and a search tool. Clearly this is a lot more powerful than putting a checkbox next to a column of data, which we like.

Even the dedicated list-lover might need something more to tempt them, though, and Ilium have anticipated such a desire with their collection of free lists to load into the program. These include unexpected delights including conversion information, travel information, calorie lists and more. With this sort of variety it's easy to see ListPro becoming indispensable, venturing into every aspect of life.

When a program has the potential to pervade so many applications, it's important that it's easy to use. Thankfully, ListPro is: entering new information follows a streamlined database-form approach, and creating new lists is a simple matter of selecting a relevant template or following a series of simple steps. Viewing and altering data is, happily, just as intuitive.

People who create lists tend to be fastidious, and our demanding minds are placated with the inclusion of passwording for security, mathematical function support for calculating total values (among other things), and full export functionality, either as ListPro files or in a variety of text formats. This ensures that all the effort put in to creating the perfect list won't be lost.

Version 4.0 of ListPro has introduced some new features that simplify the user experience, such as the ability to move items between lists, and has also improved the filtration, sorting and list-creation process compared to earlier versions.

Conclusion

The more one thinks about it, the more applications emerge for ListPro. The great thing is that Ilium have anticipated these with an extensive selection of pre-prepared lists and templates and enough spare capacity to allow enterprising users the space they need. ListPro is a professional program that would make a great addition to anybody's Pocket PC.

  • What's positive: Versatile, well-padded with templates and samples
  • What's negative: A little pricey, perhaps
