A Fantasy iPad Appears

By Sindre Lia, Wednesday 18 August 2010

There seems to be rumors of a fantasy iPad out there. We wonder if the fantasy will ever come true.

Out of the hundreds of Apple rumors that appear in a given year, only a very few turn out to be real leaks. The main reason why there are so many Apple rumors out there, is that a new rumor is usually based on an old rumor, which again was based on an even older rumor.

Yesterday, it happened again. Will Apple release a 7-inch version of the iPad built by a different manufacturer than Foxconn? No, they won't. While Apple may or may not have plans to release the iPad in various screen sizes, you'll certainly not see them anytime soon. And if they'll ever arrive in a store near you, they'll be built by Foxconn.

If you think a 7-inch version of the iPad sounds like a good fit for you, we suggest you go ahead and buy the original iPad in stead. Either that, or wait for the successor. It will take quite a while before you see it in stores though, and we heavily doubt it'll be a 7-incher.

Apple has major plans with its new tablet effort, but we don't think they're as much about offering iPads in a range of different screen sizes as they are about offering a golden triangle (iPhone, iPod touch and iPad), that'll eventually seamlessly connect to Apple's ramped up digital home gear. Keeping it clean and simple is a key selling point for Apple in everything they do, all the way down to what the product lines consist of.
