The Pentax Optio E80 gets its HD video fix and an LCD boost. See what else is new here.
We already know that not much has changed for the new Pentax Optio P80, other than some tasty coats of paint and revamped Face Detection technology, but what about the new AA-wielding Pentax Optio E80? The company's latest incarnation of the budget cam features several upgrades that are worth springing for, including a larger 2.7-inch LCD and the addition of 720p HD video capture at 15fps.
Although the same 10-megapixel sensor and 3x optical zoom were carried over, the Pentax Optio E80 will offer a new Half Length portrait mode that automatically creates a proportionate head-and-shoulders image via cropping the peripheral areas. We also get Auto Focus tracking and Auto Picture mode, which selects from eight different Scene modes and applies the correct one to the particular shooting environment. Conventional Scene modes like Portrait, Night Scene, Night Scene Portrait, Standard, Flower and Sport will also be available, and the Pentax Optio E80 adds Candlelight to the gang.
Thanks to Digital SR (Shake Reduction) mode, the Pentax Optio E80 will be able to achieve ISO levels of up to ISO 6400, but we're sure image resolutions will be compromised. Shooting will be made easy, courtesy of Green mode, which is the camera's version of Auto mode, and high-speed shooting is a boasted 16 images per every two seconds (at 640x480 resolutions). 20 frames will be available to festoon images with festive glee in Frame Composite mode, as well as a Digital Panorama mode that combines up to three images.
Stylistically, the Pentax Optio E80 has gone through a slight transformation, exhibiting sharp edges and a more asymmetrical frame. The Pentax Optio E80 will ship this September for $130 and will be available in Silver or Black.
