The Samsung Wave is the first smartphone powered by Samsung's new Bada OS, and it's now available in Europe.
Samsung today announced the commercial availability of the Samsung Wave in European countries, including Germany, France and the UK. Samsung Apps
Samsung Apps, an integrated application store accessible from the device and online, allows Samsung Wave users to download applications including games, navigation, social networking, e-book, health and lifestyle applications. Participating application providers include The Associated Press, Electronic Arts, Facebook, Gameloft, Layar, Myspace, Namco Bandai, Twitter, Universal Pictures International, WeatherBug, ZAGAT and many others.
Applications initially include titles such as Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. (Gameloft), Need for Speed Shift (EA), Tower Bloxx (Digital Chocolate), AP Mobile (The Associated Press), Weather Bug (WeatherBug) and ZAGAT TO GO (Handmark). Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. delivers 13 diverse missions, 26 licensed plane models and full 3D environment. It's worth noting that the Samsung Wave is powered by a 1GHz Hummingbird processor with an integrated PowerVR SXG540 GPU, capable of delivering a rendering performance up to 90 million triangles per second.
Social Hub integrates Web services
Samsung's new TouchWIZ 3.0 user interface is promised to provide a tactile, intuitive user experience, and includes new features such as motion UI, Smart Unlock and customizable widget screen.
The home screen can also be customized with instant access to Twitter, Facebook and a host of other social networking services courtesy of Social Hub. Social Hub is an engine that has been designed from the ground up to seamlessly integrate all major portal's email, IM and SNS services directly into the Samsung Wave. Social Hub is also powered by push technology to deliver emails, calendar events and SNS updates in real-time.
For music lovers, the home screen can be turned into a media player. Users will also get a Quick Panel, a way of prioritizing and aggregating applications into one screen for instant access.
mDNIe brings Samsung HDTV technology to smartphones
Multimedia enthusiasts will find multi-codec support for DivX, XViD, MP3 and WMV, and support for virtual 5.1 surround sound. The Samsung Wave's Super AMOLED screen also incorporates a "mobile Digital Natural Image engine", the mobile version of display technology found in Samsung's LCD and LED TVs. The technology promises to enable a free viewing angle and fast response times for video playback.

The Samsung Wave will sport a 3.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels, 5-megapixel camera with 720p video recording as well as a 1GHz processor. When it comes to connectivity, the phone will boast Quad-band GSM, HSDPA and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, making it one of the first smartphones to offer Wireless-N connectivity.
