AT&T and Samsung return with the Samsung Rugby 2 clamshell phone, boasting a rugged design, PTT functionality and location-based services and apps.
AT&T and Samsung will release the Samsung Rugby 2 on June 6, a Push to Talk device with a durable, military-grade design that can stand up to the harshest of elements. To be available in a grey, rugged clamshell design, the Samsung Rugby 2 features improved noise suppression and an external speaker to make it easier to communicate regardless of the environment. The Rugby 2 is also certified to military standard MIL-STD-810G to withstand dust, shock, vibration, rain, humidity, solar radiation, altitude and temperature extremes.
Samsung Rugby 2 comes packed with location-based services and apps
Courtesy of its aGPS capability, the Samsung Rugby 2 features AT&T Navigator, offering voice-guided and visual turn-by-turn GSP driving directions with automatic reroute, full-color maps, and real-time traffic alerts. The navigator app also includes AT&T Family Map, which gives families the ability to track a child's location from a PC or cell phone and request location updates at any time.
The Rugby 2 also includes access to location-based services and apps such as Loopt, Trimble Outdoors, AllSport GPS (workout trainer) and Where. Lastly, for productivity the Samsung Rugby 2 offers AT&T's Mobile Resource Management applications, TeleNav Track and Xora GPS Timetrack from AT&T.
In addition to its robust design, the Samsung Rugby 2 includes large external speakers, which allows for ease of use with AT&T's Push to Talk service (costs $5 per month). PTT gives users the ability to pull an entire work group into a wireless call from a PTT session and the ability to set one's own status to available, unavailable, do not disturb and more.
The Samsung Rugby 2 is equipped with a voice processor from Audience to enhance voice and suppress noise for clear communications nearly anywhere. Like the human ear, the chip isolates your voice, and filters out the unwanted background noise for improved mobile call clarity in noisy environments.
The Samsung Rugby 2 also includes AT&T Video Share, Mobile Video, AT&T Mobile Music and a mobile Web browser to keep users entertained on and off the job. Additional features of the Rugby 2 include a 2-megapixel camera with video recording, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity and a microSD memory slot supporting up to 32GB cards.
The Samsung Rugby 2 will be available on June 6 at AT&T retail locations nationwide and online for $180 with a two-year contract. A $50 mail-in rebate will be given when signing up for a qualifying plan.
