Palm Pre Plus Successor Could Arrive in Late October

Rumors of a Palm Pre Plus successor are heating up, and a leaked Verizon Wireless document suggests an October launch.
PreCentral reports that Verizon Wireless may possibly be preparing the release of a successor to the Palm Pre Plus in late October. Based on an internal document obtained by PhoneDog, the Palm Pre Plus for Verizon Wireless will be discontinued on October 21.
It could ultimately pave the way for its successor, if Verizon Wireless plans to stay in the WebOS game. Based on what's publicly known today, the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus were apparently greeted by an unreleased army of DROIDs at an early point in the WebOS history.
While it remains to be seen what Verizon Wireless' plans for WebOS are, there's no doubt that we should expect a successor to the Palm Pre Plus on one or more carriers down the road. According to PreCentral, the successor might be a "Palm Pre HD" running WebOS 2.0.
Such a solution pretty much implies that Palm will be targeting high-end Android and iPhone customers, with the aim of attracting former Palm users to WebOS. There's little doubt that WebOS was originally created to bring Palm back in the smartphone game, and we consider the company to be an outsider to watch out for in the years ahead.
