Oracle today gave the finger to open-source communities around the world. Will it leave the road open for MeeGo?
If you're wondering who is cheering the most over Oracle's lawsuit against Google and its Java implementation in Android, it's not Microsoft and Apple. They'll be busy with their own fight in the years ahead.
The emerging MeeGo community, however, should get an easier road moving forward. MeeGo will compete directly with Java in many areas, and as soon as it became clear that Intel would merge its Moblin operating system with Maemo, well, can an open-source effort get stronger?
We would go as far as saying that Oracle today left the road open for MeeGo and its Qt framework to succeed a lot quicker than what was originally expected. Oracle's lawsuit can only be seen as a sign of giving the finger to open-source communities, and Nokia and Intel will probably give a warm welcome to Java developers that are considering to join the MeeGo community down the road.
