iPad 2 Will Maintain Original iPad Screen Resolution

By Sindre Lia, Wednesday 19 January 2011

The upcoming iPad 2 will maintain the original iPad screen resolution, and focus on improving mainstream appeal.

Let's face it, when John Gruber at Daring Fireball says his sources are telling him that the iPad 2 will be an upgrade that is comparable to the iPhone 3G vs. iPhone 3GS, with a more serious step forward being in early-stage testing on Apple campus, there's really no point questioning it.

Sure, Engadget reported that the iPad 2 would become a major revamp, but let's face another thing: Engadget also reported last year that there was no such thing as Motorola Droid Pro. A few months later the Droid Pro hit store shelves as something totally different than previous Android phones.

So, if you really liked the sound of an iPad with a higher resolution, when can you expect it to arrive? Well, John Gruber says that the iPad in early-stage testing on Apple campus has a QXGA screen. However, it won't be released until Apple and friends can actually meet a certain market demand.

A former employee in the semiconductor industry predicts that Apple would be able to deliver an iPad with QXGA screen in 2012/2013. Incidentally, that's the timeframe when Apple is expected to make a move as far as 4G LTE connectivity is concerned.

So, does that mean you'll see an iPad Pro 4G model in 2012/2013, but not in 2011/2012 as we've been hoping recently? Yes, that's exactly what it means; only that it would be released as the third mainstream iPad just like the upcoming iPad 2 will be the second mainstream iPad.

Based on what's been leaked now, if we were to buy a tablet, we would wait and see what Android, WebOS and BlackBerry tablets will bring to the table throughout 2011.
