The HTC Status boasting a dedicated Facebook share button will be released on AT&T this summer.
Starting this summer, Facebook addicts no longer have to worry about staying up to date. The brand new HTC Status for AT&T is the first device for the U.S. market to offer the HTC Sense experience with an added touch of Facebook features out-of-the-box. In fact, the Status boasts a dedicated Facebook share button! "With a dedicated Facebook share button combined with the hallmark HTC Sense experience, HTC Status makes it easy for people to stay connected to the things that are important to them," says Jason Mackenzie, President, HTC Americas.
The Facebook Share Button
In a mobile world where hardware buttons are increasingly becoming a commodity, the HTC Status basically takes you in the opposite direction. Those who bet on it will be rewarded with a multi-function button from another planet. Here's what the Facebook button pulls off:
Press it from your home screen to instantly post on your wall.
Take a picture or shoot a video and share it instantly with a press of the button. You can also post pictures automatically as you're taking them.
Long press it to check in your location with Facebook Places.
See something cool on the Web? Share your latest find with a quick press of the Facebook button.
The Facebook share button glows when you're listening to music, to let you know that you can share it with your friends.
Beyond the Facebook button, the Status offers an integrated Facebook Chat widget that allows you to see when your friends are online. You can start a live instant chat and juggle between as many private conversations as you want. Additionally, when you get or make a call, you'll see your friend's profile picture and latest status update right on the call screen. If it's their birthday that week, that'll be displayed too.
Other Features
The HTC Status (specs) is powered by HTC Sense atop Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Sense experience includes the ability to launch your favorite applications directly from the lock screen. Special effects can also be added to photos and videos through special lenses and filters. Effects can be applied right in the viewfinder, or afterwards in the Gallery. Additionally, a "Quiet ring on pickup" setting reduces the ring volume when you pick the phone up, while a "Pocket mode" setting increases ring volume when your phone is in a pocket or bag, and then returns the volume to a reasonable level when you take it out.
The Status sports two cameras; a VGA front-facing camera as well as a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED Flash and video recording. Furthermore, it offers a 2.6-inch touchscreen with a HVGA (480 by 320 pixels) resolution, as well as an 800 MHz processor and 512MB RAM. HTC has also found room for a 1250 mAh battery on the Status. It measures 4.5 by 2.54 by 0.42 inches; a super-slim QWERTY phone, in other words.
Price and Release Date
An exact release date and price tag have yet to be announced, but the HTC Status will be available from AT&T this summer. Update: It'll be available on July 17, selling for $50 with a new two-year contract.
