Following AT&T's speech at the Symbian Partner Event, the carrier has now confirmed that it'll not standardize on one platform.
A few days ago we covered AT&T's speech at the Symbian Partner Event, which led to a range of questions as to what would happen next. Now AT&T has confirmed that they have no plans to standardize on one platform for smartphones. There will be innovative devices, applications, operating systems and interfaces from a range of companies also in the future.
The reason AT&T is a member of the Symbian Foundation is to seek standardized technologies to be used across operating systems and platforms. In other words, this should primarily be seen as an on-going effort to make it easier for both carriers and application developers to port solutions to multiple platforms and screen resolutions.
Our take on that is simple: Join the Open Handset Alliance and make it happen for real.
