AT&T and HTC today announced the Fuze. There's no doubt that the AT&T Fuze comes with some impressive functionality, but will the AT&T Fuze hardware keep up with the demanding TouchFLO 3D interface? We'll tell you whether AT&T and HTC have been able to solve that smoothly as soon as we post our full review. But don't expect it to give the AT&T Tilt a serious beating though, as we have a feeling that the latter could remain the king of Windows Mobile on AT&T for a while longer.
The AT&T Fuze features a 2.8-inch touchscreen with a VGA resolution, built-in AGPS for use with AT&T Navigator powered by Telenav, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, as well as video share and push-to-talk services.
Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the AT&T Fuze will offer well-known productivity and scheduling features and seamless integration with Microsoft Outlook information including e-mail, contacts, calendar and to-do lists. Additionally, Good Mobile Messaging and BlackBerry Connect compatibility will be offered later this year. They can access and edit e-mail attachments using mobile versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint.
AT&T Fuze customers can also choose to tether their smartphone to their notebook, and a business card application allows users to capture and save contact information with the built-in 3.2-megapixel camera. In addition, the AT&T Fuze supports Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM), an enterprise management solution that also provides security, mobile Virtual Private Network (VPN) and software distribution for Windows Mobile 6.1 devices.
Last but not least, the AT&T Fuze includes the Opera Mobile browser out-of-box, giving you free access to one of the best mobile browsers around. The Opera browser has gotten a nice facelift to match the TouchFLO 3D interface, and when we checked it out in our HTC Touch Pro review for Sprint, we liked the full-screen view that it offered. We also liked being able to zoom in on a page by swirling our finger around the navigation button. We wish the zoom action were much smoother, but it was still a functional shortcut.
The AT&T Fuze is available now from AT&T Wireless for $350 with a two-year contract. A $50 mail-in rebate is given when signing up for a qualifying plan.
Stay tuned for our full review of the AT&T Fuze to be posted soon.
