T-Mobile today officially announced two anticipated Samsung handsets, including the Behold (specs & gallery) and Gravity (specs & gallery). Additionally, T-Mobile used the opportunity to remind us about the recently released, G1, Pearl Flip and Motorola Zine.
Although T-Mobile didn't reveal much about the Samsung handsets, we assume that the Behold handset will be very similar to the recently announced Samsung Delve. According to T-Mobile, the phone will join the recently launched T-Mobile G1 in offering 3G connectivity for T-Mobile customers, as well as a full HTML web browser. Based on what the Samsung Delve will offer when being launched today, the phone will also offer Samsung's TouchWiz interface.
The TouchWiz interface incorporates specially designed widgets that allow the user to customize and personalize their phone. Users can drag and drop widgets onto the main screen, which offers users instant access to their favorite functions. The widgets allow users to customize the main display screen to match the icons of the applications and features they use the most. Check out the TouchWiz interface in action here.
Additionally, we expect the phone to offer a 3-inch touchscreen with haptic feedback and a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels, a 5-megapixel camera with video recording capabilities, as well as an MP3 player, microSD memory slot supporting up to 8GB cards and a 3.5mm headset jack. It should also offer Stereo Bluetooth.
The phone is now available for $200 from T-Mobile with a two-year contract. A $50 mail-in rebate is given when signing up for a qualifying plan.
The Gravity will offer a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, when being released on November 17. Furthermore, the phone will support Instant messaging clients, as well as text, multimedia and video messaging.
Generally, T-Mobile describes the phone as a texting powerhouse, so let's hope we'll see a user interface optimized accordingly. T-Mobile did a good job optimizing the Windows Mobile powered Wing a couple of years ago. That said, since the phone will be T-Mobile's version of the Samsung Rant on Sprint, which offers Sprint's new OneTouch interface, we'll just have to wait until we see it in person before making a final judgment.
