Palm, HTC announce WM6 upgrade deadlinesBy Sindre Lia, 23 October 2008
If you own a Windows Mobile 5 smartphone, you may be eligible for a free upgrade to version 6. HTC and Palm have now announced deadlines for these free upgrades.

Palm and HTC have recently announced deadlines for free Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrades:

  • As of Nov. 1, the free Windows Mobile 6.0 update for the AT&T Treo 750 is no longer available. Palm encourages those AT&T 750 users wanting the update, which provides faster downloads, improved calendar functionality and compatibility with Windows Vista, among other things, to download this free update before Nov. 1. The update is completely optional; AT&T 750s will continue to work and be supported under Windows Mobile 5 for those customers that choose to forego the update. Treo 750s purchased after December 2007 are already running Windows Mobile 6.0, so the update does not apply to them. The update can be found here.

  • For HTC customers, October 31st is the last day to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows Mobile 6. The upgrade link will be removed from HTC's website at 12:00 pm (noon) GMT on October 31st. Removal of this free upgrade may affect users of the following devices: HTC S621, HTC S620, HTC P4350, HTC P3300, HTC Advantage. If you haven't upgraded yet and your device has a Windows Mobile version lower than 6, you should consider taking advantage of this offer before it expires. To check the version on your device, go to Start > Settings > System tab > About. Download links can be found at HTC's product pages.
