A rumor has appeared suggesting that an Apple LCD HDTV with Apple TV functionality will be released. Will it be using LG.Philips LCD panels?
In an interview with CNet UK, the founder of Weblogs Inc. and Mahalo, Jason Calacanis, revealed that Apple is planning to release an Apple LCD LCD HDTV. Since LG.Philips is known to provide LCD panels for the company's current 30" monitor, it could mean that the new Apple LCD HDTV will use larger size LG.Philips LCD panels.
According to Calacanis, the HDTVs will come integrated with Apple TV functionality. In other words, the iTunes store will be a crucial part of the Apple LCD HDTV, offering services such as HD movie rentals. And of course, you'll be encouraged to get yourself an iPod touch or iPhone to control the HDTV via Apple's Remote.
At CES 2008, we checked out the 47" LG.Philips Ultraslim LCD HDTV, and its 0.77-inch (19.8mm) thick body may have increased Apple's willingness to actually go ahead and release an Apple LCD HDTV. The television uses CCFL technology to illuminate the screen instead of traditional LCD lighting techniques, which would obviously fit well for one of Apple's release events.
Since the LG.Philips Ultraslim was scheduled to be released in March 2008, although we haven't seen any brand picking it up, it could mean that the Cupertino camp is planning to roll out a pretty fancy Apple LCD HDTV this holiday season, or not. It's difficult to say anything for sure when it comes to Apple.

 LG.Philips' 52-inch Multi-touch was one of the more interesting HDTVs on display at CES because, as its name implies, it's also touchscreen. The LG.Philips rep demonstrated the capabilities of the TV for us by zooming in on Google Maps by just touching the screen (see our photo gallery). Unfortunately, the Multi-touch is not meant for the homes of private consumer, they're being designed as public displays for use in malls, airports and other venues. Release: January 2008.
