The Motorola ROKR EM28 is a slight step up from the smaller, sliding ROKR EM25, which gives this phone EDGE networking and dedicated, touch sensitive keys to control the music. In our hands, it was easy to see the resemblance, as both phones are reminiscent of their respective Motorola families, and the ROKR EM28 combines some of the sleek lines and tight-fitting finish of the RAZR family with the rounded edges and cheaper white plastics that let us know this is a low-end device. Of course, even at the low end, Motorola has still included their Crystal Talk technology, which should make calls sound better. The phone also gets an FM radio and stereo Bluetooth, so even bargain hunters can expect some advanced music features. Of course, what these inexpensive ROKRs could really use is an improved music player, with a much better interface design, but Motorola has stuck to their standard low-end system for these new devices, which was disappointing in our hands-on time with the device. Release: November 2008.
