Portable: Qualcomm mirasol color displays, Toshiba 240GB HDDBy Sindre Lia, Wednesday 10 September 2008
Qualcomm's low-power, yet bright, mirasol color displays to appear in Skullcandy headphones. Toshiba announces 240GB HDD for portable devices.

Toshiba today announced the world's first dual-platter 240GB HDD. The new drive delivers the highest capacity and areal density in the 1.8-inch drive category, for integration into portable media players, camcorders and mobile PCs. Toshiba also announced new 120GB and 80GB capacity offerings, rounding out its line of high-capacity 4,200 RPM 1.8-inch HDDs for consumer electronics and mobile PC system manufacturers.

The new 240GB drive and 80GB drive will enter mass production at the end of September, and the 120GB drive is now in mass production.

Additionally, Qualcomm today announced that Skullcandy and Freestyle Audio will release portable technology with the new mirasol display technology. The Freestyle Audio Soundwave Limited Edition with mirasol display will include a 0.9-inch color mirasol display, giving consumers a portable, waterproof music option for outdoor use.

Skullcandy will incorporate color mirasol displays into future MFM Pro headphones with an integrated music player. According to Qualcomm, portable music devices for the action sports market will benefit from the mirasol display's low power usage and clarity in bright environments.
