Some of the new GPS navigation systems from Garmin, Sony and Navigon include a range of high-end features as well as free lifetime traffic information subscriptions.
Garmin, Sony and Navigon this week presented its new GPS navigation systems for the holiday season, including seven new models from Garmin, four new models from Sony and one new model from Navigon.
Navigon 7200T PND
The new Navigon 7200T personal navigation device is aimed at those looking for both style and substance, offering features such as Reality View Pro, Lane Assistant Pro and free real-time traffic updates for life. Furthermore, the Navigon 7200T offers voice destination entry, landmark view 3D and an improved user interface. Like most of the navigators above, the Navigon 7200T also supports Bluetooth for hands-free calling. It also synchronizes contacts with Microsoft Outlook via Navigon Sync. The Navigon 7200T measures 4.5 by 2.9 by 0.7 inches and sports a 4.3-inch widescreen.
The Navigon T7200T will be available in September 2008 for $450, including pre-loaded maps for North America.
Garmin nüvi 705 series
Garmin's new nüvi 705 series offers 3D building view and lane assistance. The Garmin nüvi 755T, 765T and 775T will come standard with a traffic receiver that provides lifetime traffic alerts in coverage areas from NAVTEQ Traffic. The cost of the traffic receiver is included with the purchase of the devices - no subscription fee is required. The Garmin nüvi 765T adds Bluetooth for hands-free calling and supports an advanced audio amplifier for a stereo Bluetooth connection. Additionally, the new Garmin nüvi 785T features an MSN Direct receiver with trial subscription. The Garmin nüvi 705 series also displays speed limits for major roadways, as well as offering Garmin's "Where Am I?" feature.
Garmin nüvi 205 series
The Garmin nüvi 265T, 265WT and 275T enhance upon their 205 series predecessors with Bluetooth for hands-free calling. In addition to features offered by other models in the nüvi 205 series, these new navigators boast lifetime traffic alerts from NAVTEQ Traffic, just like the new 705 series navigators. All the new 205 series navigators also include Garmin's new HotFix feature, which automatically calculate and stores critical satellite information for faster satellite reception.
Sony expands nav-u PND series
Featuring more brand icons, search functionality and photo viewing features, the new Sony nav-u NV-U94T, NV-U84, NV-U74T and NV-U44 personal navigation devices will hit store shelves this fall. The Sony NV-U49T adds new features such as a photo viewer (JPEG), audio/video player (MP3, non-DRM AAC, MPEG-4) and stereo Bluetooth for streaming audio and making hands-free phone calls using compatible devices.
In addition to the entertainment features, the Sony NV-U94T includes dual view 3D junction guide (dynamic route information) and Position Plus. The latter is a hardware-based solution that consists of an acceleration sensor, a pressure sensor and a gyro sensor that together can calculate the vehicle's current position based on the last known GPS location.
The new models also come with a revised search algorithm for quicker POI searches. Gesture commands are also available, allowing users to advance to the next picture, music track or video clip with a swipe of the finger from left to right across the screen. Other gesture commands include take me home, zoom in or out and call home.
