Nokia today announced that the N96 will be made available for high-speed 3G HSDPA networks widely used in the U.S. during the fourth quarter of 2008. Combining a 2.8-inch screen, 16GB of internal memory and compatibility with a wide range of video formats, the phone is one of the Finnish manufacturer's most powerful multimedia smartphones to date.
Support for popular video download services, including those using Windows Media Format, means that users can explore, purchase and download movies, television shows and other video content on their PCs and sideload them to their devices.
While optimized for entertainment, the phone offers all the features that have made the Nokia Nseries line of devices popular. Some of these features include a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, integrated Wi-Fi support and assisted-GPS navigation.
Through the integration of Ovi services, the phone enables users to upload images, videos and other content using the Share on Ovi service, to navigate across town and country with Nokia Maps 2.0, or to play N-Gage games tournament with friends.
Included with the phone are three months of navigation service for Nokia Maps 2.0, as well as a voucher to purchase a full version of the N-Gage racing title Asphalt 3: Street Rules.
The N96 with U.S. 3G support is expected to be available during the fourth quarter of 2008 for an estimated price of $900. Will it ever be picked up and subsidized by AT&T Wireless? No.
