Canon is expanding its PowerShot A-series with the announcement of two new additions; the Canon PowerShot A2000 IS and the Canon PowerShot A1000 IS. Sporting a new look, the two cameras combine a standard feature-set with a more compact body.
The new cameras are aimed at those who are looking for a standard entry-level camera, and travelers who don't want to worry about charging their batteries while on-the-go (draws power from two AA batteries).
The Canon PowerShot A1000 IS features a 10-megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom lens (35-140mm equivalent), DIGIC III image processor and comes in four two-toned colors. Additionally, it features a 2.5-inch LCD screen. Compare it to its siblings in Canon's A-series here.
The Canon PowerShot A2000 IS also has a 10-megapixel sensor and a DIGIC III image processor, but takes it all a step further offering a 6x optical zoom lens (36-216mm equivalent) and a 3-inch LCD screen. Compare it to its siblings in Canon's A-series here.
Each camera is equipped with an optical image stabilized lens to help reduce camera shake, and High ISO Auto which takes into account the subject's movement. A new Easy Mode has also been included, which limits camera functions to the basics for simplified operation. Both cameras also offer face and motion detection, as well as a flash with red-eye correction.
The Canon PowerShot A2000 IS and Canon PowerShot A1000 IS will be available in September 2008, selling for $250 and $200, respectively.
