The 10-megapixel Olympus Stylus 1050 SW will make its debut this fall, featuring a 3D accelerometer for tap control.
Olympus today announced the Olympus Stylus 1050 SW, a rugged 10-megapixel camera designed to take the hard knocks that everyday life can throw its way. More specifically, it has a shockproof, waterproof and freezeproof body. Additionally, the Olympus Stylus 1050 SW weathers the elements in four trendy colors (blue, champagne, silver and black) and a new streamlined body. Compare it to the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW here.
The Olympus Stylus 1050 SW can be controlled with a simple tap on its top, back or sides, which is made possible thanks to the new camera's 3D accelerometer that detects the direction of the force on the camera's body. For example, to turn on the flash or Shadow Adjustment Technology, tap the camera's side twice. The Tap Control is mainly added to ensure fast results in the field, so even if you are adjusting settings while fighting frostbite with large gloves, the Olympus Stylus 1050 SW promises to deliver.
The Olympus Stylus 1050 SW can be dropped from heights up to 5 feet, and it can also take photos while being submerged to depths of approximately 10 feet (3 meters). The inclusion of a preset underwater scene mode is claimed to make the Olympus Stylus 1050 SW perfect for snorkeling or a day in the pool.
Just like the new Olympus SP-565 UZ, the Olympus Stylus 1050 SW features camera technology such as Face detection, smile shot, shadow adjustment technology, perfect shot preview and a TruePic III image processor.
The Olympus Stylus 1050 SW will be available in October 2008, selling for an estimated price of $300.
