The Palm Treo Pro is ultra-thin, yet offers a new powerful processor, GPS navigation, AT&T HSDPA support and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.

Palm today introduced the Palm Treo Pro, a smartphone powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The Palm Treo Pro will be offered by carriers in Europe and Australia, but will also be available in an unlocked version in the United States.

The Palm Treo Pro offers a one-touch Wi-Fi button, today screen enhancements, ringer switch (silences the device immediately), screen saver, new voicemail indicator (the center button flashes to let users know that a voicemail is waiting) and dedicated e-mail and calendar buttons. Another key update can be found in the hardware, as the Palm Treo Pro is powered by a 400 MHz Qualcomm MSM7201 processor.

Additional features include built-in GPS capabilities, a 2-megapixel camera and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Palm Treo Pro operates on Quad-band GSM networks and should also support AT&T's HSDPA network. Its Wi-Fi 802.11b/g capabilities include WPA, WPA2 and 801.1x authentication. Palm claims a talk time of up to five hours for the Palm Treo Pro.

Furthermore, the Palm Treo Pro boasts a touchscreen with 320 by 320 pixels resolution, and Microsoft's Internet Explorer Mobile for web browsing. The latter will soon be upgraded to a more capable version compared to the best solutions on the market right now. The Palm Treo Pro also offer a microSDHC memory slot supporting up to 32GB cards, microUSB 2.0 for synchronization and charging, and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR for short-range connectivity.

The Palm Treo Pro measures 4.49 by 2.36 by 0.53 inches and weighs 4.69 ounces. It's in other words the thinnest Palm Treo smartphone to date, easily beating the most recent Palm Centro and Palm Treo 800w for instance. Check out a full comparison with competing smartphones here.

The Palm Treo Pro will be available in September for $550, through the Palm online store as well as select Internet, retail and enterprise resellers. The Treo Pro smartphone comes with an international power charger, microUSB cable and a stereo headset (3.5mm).

Stay tuned for our upcoming review of the Palm Treo Pro.
