The new Sony Vaio FW series of multimedia notebooks are geared for Blu-ray playback and recording, including full HD wireless streaming to HDTVs.
Sony today unveiled the Sony Vaio FW series of multimedia notebooks. Weighing a little over six pounds, the Sony Vaio FW features a 16.4-inch widescreen display.
The premium model (full specs) sports a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphics card, 4GB DDR2 SDRAM, 320GB HDD (5400 RPM), Blu-ray drive and a HDMI port.
Additionally, the Sony Vaio FW series comes with three entertainment software applications, including Vaio Movie Story, Vaio MusicBox and a Click to Disc/Editor software. A DLNA-enabled media sharing application that lets users wirelessly stream content stored on the notebook is also included. Movies, music and digital still images can be streamed from the notebook to a Playstation 3 or Vaio Home Theater PC that is connected to a HDTV. The premium model plays Blu-ray movies in full 1080 HD resolution when connected to a compatible HDTV.
The Sony Vaio FW is equipped with a range of slots, ports and jacks, including a Memory Stick/SD card slot, three USB ports, an i.LINK port, microphone and headphone jack, and a 34mm ExpressCard slot. In addition, the Sony Vaio FW sports Wi-Fi 802.11n connectivity and a built-in 1.3-megapixel web camera.
The Sony Vaio FW standard model starts at about $1000, while the premium will go for around $1750.
