The new Creative Zen X-Fi is now available in 32GB / 16GB Wi-Fi models, supporting music, video and photo streaming as well as instant messaging.
Creative today announced the Creative Zen X-Fi and Zen X-Fi with Wi-Fi, the manufacturer's latest digital media players for music, video and photos. The new players incorporate X-Fi Crystalizer, a proprietary audio technology that is claimed to restore the highs and lows to music during playback that were lost during ripping to MP3, WMA or AAC formats.
The Creative Zen X-Fi's wireless LAN capability allows users to stream and download music from computers via wireless home networks. Music can be played through the built-in speaker, a home speaker system or the optional TravelSound Zen X-Fi docking speaker system accessory (image). Video files (WMV, AVI, MJPEG, MPEG4-SP, DivX 4/5 and XviD) and photos (JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, TIFF) can also be streamed, and displayed on the Creative Zen X-Fi's 2.5-inch screen (16M colors, 320 x 240 pixels). The Creative Zen X-Fi Video Converter, which converts video files to formats suitable for wireless streaming, will be made available for web downloading early August 2008. A variety of ZENcast and podcast channels can also be streamed to the players.
The Creative Zen X-Fi also offers free instant messaging over popular IM services including Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live! Messenger. Additionally, the Creative Zen X-Fi sports a built-in FM radio with 32 presets, a built-in microphone for voice recording and a built-in SD memory card slot.
The Creative Zen X-Fi measures 83 by 55 by 12.8 mm and weighs 69 grams. Creative claims a battery life of up to 36 hours of audio playtime and up to 5 hours of video playtime.
The Creative Zen X-Fi with Wi-Fi is available now in a 32GB model for $300, and a 16GB model for $200. The Zen X-Fi 8GB model which does not include Wi-Fi, will be available in late July 2008 for $150. All three models will ship with a set of EP-830 in-ear earphones. The Creative Zen X-Fi TravelSound docking speaker system will be available later this summer for $50.
