Toshiba today announced a new configuration in its R500 series, the Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V with a 128GB solid state drive (specs). For enhanced outdoor viewing, the Portege R500 series incorporates a widescreen 12.1-inch transflective LED backlit display with a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels (WXGA). The LED backlighting can be switched off to preserve battery life.
The Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V's recommended configuration features Windows Vista Business, a 1.3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo U7700 processor, 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM, Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics, 7mm thin DVD SuperMulti drive, as well as Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR connectivity.
Weighing in at 2.4 pounds, the Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V business notebook is claimed to offer a battery life of up to eight hours. It also incorporates Toshiba's EasyGuard technology, which includes advanced encryption, multiple level passwords and a fingerprint reader.
The Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V is available now for $3000. The R500-S5006V incorporates the same technology, except for featuring a 160GB HDD, and is available for $2100.
