Nokia E71 release confirmed, Nokia E72 coming to AT&T?By Sindre Lia, Monday 9 June 2008
A Nokia executive eagerly tells about upcoming E-series smartphones like the Nokia E71; will they ship a Nokia E72 for AT&T anytime soon too?

Editor's note: Click here to read about the officially announced Nokia E71 with AT&T HSDPA support.

Nokia today confirmed the release of several new E-series smartphones, likely referring to the Nokia E71 QWERTY smartphone and the Nokia E66 business phone. Both models will be brought to market in the third quarter of 2008, Anssi Vanjoki, senior executive vice president of Nokia Markets, told Reuters.

The Nokia E71 will succeed the E61 and E61i QWERTY smartphones, offering Quad-band GSM and European HSDPA support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, as well as Nokia Maps 2.0.

Until just recently, AT&T Wireless promoted and sold the American counterpart, the Nokia E62, so there's a good chance that a Nokia E72 will be picked up by the carrier this fall. That would make it the first carrier subsidized 3G smartphone from Nokia in the U.S market.

A Nokia E72 would get a tough time competing with AT&T's upcoming BlackBerry Bold though, the carrier's first 3G enabled BlackBerry. However, AT&T would get a pretty solid offering in the business smartphone market this fall, if they're planning to offer the latest and greatest of 3G enabled smartphones powered by Windows Mobile, BlackBerry OS and Symbian S60.
