The Klipsch Image X5 earphones join the lightweight Image earphones introduced last year, offering a couple of key differences.
Klipsch today announced its Image X5 earphones, featuring translucent Contour Ear Gels that are anatomically designed to fit inside the human ear canal. The X5 comes with five different-sized ear gels: small, medium and large single flange designs as well as small and large double flange designs.
From a performance perspective, the Image X5 uses a balanced full-range armature driver with a tuned bass-reflex system, while the original Image earphones (now renamed to Image X10) use an armature micro-driver. As such, the Image X5 is slightly larger, though only 2 mm in diameter.
Sound-wise, the Image X5 is claimed to be a better match for listening to for instance Rock, while the slightly more bass-intensive Image X10 makes a good fit for listening to for instance R&B. Still, the major difference between the two is the price, thanks to the Image X5 being equipped with standard-sized technology.
The Klipsch Image X5 is compatible with the iPod, iPhone and most other devices with a standard headphone jack. The earphones also come with a carrying pouch, an airplane adaptor, the above-mentioned ear gels and an ear gel cleaning tool.
Priced at $250, the Klipsch Image X5 will be available in late June 2008. The Klipsch Image X10 (currently sold as "Klipsch IMAGE") is available now for approximately $350.
