The new HTC smartphone boasts Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with TouchFLO 3D, GPS capabilities, QWERTY thumbboard and a 2.8-inch VGA touch screen.
HTC today unveiled its next generation business smartphone, the HTC Touch Pro. Utilizing similar styling and functionality as the ultra-thin Touch Diamond, the Touch Pro introduces a variety of business-focused enhancements (compare the new HTC Touch smartphones).
Measuring 102 by 51 by 18 mm and weighing 165 g (4 by 2 by 0.71 inches and 5.83 ounces), the phone sports a 2.8-inch VGA touch screen and HTC's TouchFLO 3D interface. TouchFLO 3D is optimized for reaching common tasks like messaging, calendar appointments or making calls with just one touch. Finding music, photos, contacts and surfing the mobile Internet are also claimed to be responsive to the touch. In addition, the phone includes a new touch-sensitive control for device interaction.
With the introduction of HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, the Taiwanese manufacturer aims to deliver a new mobile Internet experience that utilizes broadband-like speeds with HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA wireless connectivity (compare the Touch Pro to the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 and HP iPAQ 900 QWERTY smartphones). HTC provides a new customized mobile Web browser that enables easier viewing and navigation of Websites in the way they are designed to be viewed on a PC.
As part of this browsing experience users can zoom and pan Websites with one-hand and automatically view optimized content that has been specially created to fit the phone's display. Turning the device sideways automatically rotates the web page view from a portrait to landscape view, thanks to wireless and auto sensor screen pivoting.
In addition to Web browsing, the phone includes a HTC-developed YouTube application for watching a variety of user generated video content as well as including Google Maps for mobile for mapping and traffic data. The latter takes advantage of the HTC Touch Pro's built-in GSP/AGPS functionality.
The smartphone incorporates a new five-row QWERTY keyboard layout for making typing-intensive tasks like composing e-mail or working on Microsoft Office documents go like a breeze compared to the all-touch Touch Diamond. Built-in TV-out functionality means users can deliver PowerPoint presentations from the HTC Touch Pro.
a 3.2-megapixel camera with optical auto-focus has also been included, while photos and other multimedia files can be stored on microSD memory cards or the HTC Touch Pro's internal memory of 288MB RAM.
The phone features a range of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR and HTC ExtUSB (mini-USB and audio jack in one). Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the HTC Touch Pro is built on a Qualcomm MSM 7201A 528MHz chipset and offers 512MB flash memory.
HTC claims a talk time of up to 8 hours for the Touch Pro's 1350 mAh battery, and new accessories such as a desktop cradle, travel charger and extended battery will be available separately.
The HTC Touch Pro will be available to customers across all major European, Asian and the Middle East markets in late summer 2008. The North American and Latin American versions of the phone will be available later in 2008. Pricing has yet to be determined.
