Boasting 40% improved performance and better HD video processing, the Nvidia GeForce 9600M will appear in notebooks this summer.
Nvidia today introduced a new line-up of notebook GPUs, the Nvidia GeForce 9M Series of graphics processors, and a new graphics innovation, Nvidia Hybrid SLI technology. New notebooks using GeForce 9600M GPUs and Hybrid SLI will be released this summer, and one of them will be the Acer Aspire 8920G. Acer's Aspire 6920G has been announced with the GeForce 9500M card.
The Nvidia GeForce 9600M Series is designed for running today's graphically intensive games, 3D applications and HD movies at full resolution. In addition, this new GPU features a multi-core architecture which is claimed to speed up both entertainment as well as lifestyle applications. When encoding video from a PC to a portable player, Nvidia claims an up to 5x faster conversion speed with the GeForce 9600M.
A new graphics engine is claimed to deliver up to 40% faster performance than previous generation GeForce notebook GPUs and 10x the performance of integrated graphics solutions. The high-end card's PureVideo HD video processing also promises to deliver better color and contrast than earlier, and should offer support for BD-Live and dual-stream video playback. The Nvidia GeForce 9600M Series also boasts DVI, HDMI 1.3, Display Port 1.1 and VGA ports, and supports the new MXM version 3.0 graphics module specification.
In addition, the new Nvidia GeForce 9600M enables the world's first notebooks with Hybrid SLI technology. The new technology enables two Nvidia GPUs, one low-power and one high-performance, to work cooperatively in the same PC to deliver two features - GeForce Boost and HybridPower. These features is claimed to deliver more performance from both GPUs when needed, or save power by switching to the low-power GPU when not.
The new GeForce 9M GPUs will start appearing in notebook models this summer.
