The Acer Aspire one will arrive in North American stores this summer, with pricing beginning at $380.
Acer today presented the Aspire one, a new compact Mobile Internet Device measuring 9.8 by 6.7 by 1.14 inches and weighing a little more than two pounds. The Acer Aspire one offers a full software application suite and a battery of up to six hours.
The Acer Aspire one comes standard with 802.11b/g Wi-Fi built-in, but will not include 3G connectivity at the time of introduction. However, Acer says that it may add 3G connectivity in the future.
The Acer Aspire one has an 8.9-inch CrystalBrite LED backlit display with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels, and an integrated webcam in the top of the screen. Powered by an Intel Atom processor, Linups Linux Lite or Windows XP Home and 512MB or 1GB of RAM, the Acer Aspire One is one of several new laptops of this kind to make its debut this year.

For data storage there are two options: a NAND flash module of 8GB or an 80GB internal HDD. In addition, the Acer Aspire one reads five different types of memory including SD, MMC, MS, MS PRO and xD Picture Card. To increase storage capacity, the Acer Aspire one features a Smart File Manager, which merges extra storage from any SD card inserted into the system's dedicated SD card slot.
Acer has designed a new interface for the Aspire one, aiming to simplify access and management of key functionality. The Acer Aspire one features an e-mail software suite - one Mail - that lets users manage up to six e-mail accounts, and a small icon to the right of the message will show the appropriate mail account.
The Acer Aspire one also comes with OpenOffice 2.3, Microsoft Messenger, Acer eRecovery Management, Acer Launch Manager, Adobe Reader, McAfee Internet Security Suite and Microsoft Office Trial 2007.
The new Acer Aspire one will be available in early Q3 through Acer authorized resellers and selected retailers throughout North America, with pricing beginning at $380.
