One of our readers tells us she is ready to enter the mobile e-mail world. Which phones will get the job done while on the go?
Reader's question: I've had a cell phone for several years, but haven't gone into the e-mail world. Now I will be traveling more with my job and want to know what the best cell phone would be for me. I want to be able to both receive and send e-mails, and don't have any experience with text messaging. HELP! Lyn B.
Editor's answer:
The Motorola Q9h global (AT&T), Motorola Q9c (Sprint) and the BlackBerry Curve are great phones for e-mail, and the latter should now be available on AT&T Wireless, Verizon Wireless as well as Sprint's network. These phones will also provide excellent talk time for calling (7 hours or more).
There are also a couple of good alternatives in the Samsung BlackJack II and the Palm Centro on AT&T Wireless. Both phones offer great e-mail performance, but we found the Centro's keyboard to be slightly cramped. The sound quality offered by these two phones is also pretty good, and the same applies for the talk time (5-6 hours).
For those looking for more specialized phones, the BlackBerry 8120 Pearl on T-Mobile offers a combination of great e-mail performance and a SureType keyboard, while the AT&T Tilt on AT&T Wireless features a touch screen and a diverse set of productivity and scheduling options in addition to great e-mail performance.
