Microsoft's new portable accessories for notebooks and desktops promise improved multimedia experience for consumers on the go.
Microsoft today introduced the LifeCam VX-5000, LifeCam VX-500 and LifeChat LX-2000 notebook and desktop accessories. The LifeCam VX-5000 is a webcam with a bendable attachment base that molds to almost any surface, from a notebook to a desktop, so users can take it anywhere.
The Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 features a brightly colored ring around the front of the webcam in the colors Cool Blue, Lucky Green and Fire Red, and also offer MSN Photo Swap, a feature that lets consumers share digital photos in mid-video conversations. Sporting a VGA video sensor (640 by 480 pixels) and 1.3-megapixel still photography, the Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 will connect through a Windows Live Call Button located on top of the camera. A LifeCam Dashboard incorporates navigational controls (pan, tilt, zoom, face tracking and video effects) within the Windows Live Messenger interface. It also features a built-in unidirectional microphone with noise-cancellation.
The LifeCam VX-500 is a VGA webcam designed to fit on notebooks and desktop PCs, while the LifeChat LX-2000 is a full-size headset that folds down into a portable shape. Both products are aimed at consumers on the go, and should work with major instant messaging programs.
Microsoft's LifeCam VX-5000 will be available in June 2008 for $50, while the LifeCam VX-500 and LifeChat LX-2000 will be available in May 2008 for $17 and $30, respectively.
