Overpriced BlackBerry consumer smartphones are finally getting a much needed price cut, or at least the Curve on Verizon Wireless does.

Verizon Wireless today announced that the anticipated BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone (in-depth review) from Research In Motion is now available through Verizon Wireless' online store and through business sales channels. The BlackBerry Curve is the smallest and lightest full-QWERTY BlackBerry smartphone and is packed with multimedia capabilities and services, allowing users to stay connected to work, family and friends while on-the-go.

The BlackBerry Curve also features BlackBerry Internet Service (access up to 10 supported POP3 and IMAP personal and corporate e-mail accounts, including most popular ISP e-mail accounts), BlackBerry Professional Software for small businesses and BlackBerry Enterprise Server for enterprise deployments.

Measuring 4.2 by 2.4 by 0.6 inches and weighing 4 ounces, the BlackBerry Curve sports a 2.5-inch QVGA screen with light sensing technology (automatically adjusts brightness). Customers will also be able to upgrade to the recently released VZ Navigator 4.

The BlackBerry Curve boasts several multimedia features, including a 2-megapixel camera, 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, a capable music player, Bluetooth 2.0 with stereo support and a microSD memory slot supporting up to 8GB cards. Facebook for BlackBerry should also come pre-installed. RIM claims a talk time of up to 4 hours and a standby time of up to 11 days.

The BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone is available for $170 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year contract.
