TomTom's One and XL lines of GPS navigators are slated to get four upgraded models next month, including a thinner TomTom XL.

TomTom today announced upgraded versions of the TomTom One and TomTom XL GPS navigators. The new devices come with a redesigned body, including a folding mount that should provide better portability and flexibility. This new windshield mount, known as the EasyPort mount, can be left on the device and folded flat after use. The complete unit should then be small enough to fit into a pocket when the driver leaves the vehicle.

In addition, the TomTom One and TomTom XL are now equipped with a revised audio system, aiming to provide louder and clearer navigation instructions. Text-to-speech models are also available on the new GPS navigators.

The TomTom One comes with a 3.5-inch QVGA touch screen, measures 3.8 by 3.2 by 1.0 inches and weighs in at 6.1 ounces (same dimensions as earlier). The TomTom XL boasts a 4.3-inch WQVGA touch widescreen, measures 4.7 by 3.2 by 0.9 inches and weighs 6.6 ounces (slightly more compact than earlier).

Both devices support TomTom's Map Share technology, where users upload and share corrections and improvements including street names, road speed limits, turn restrictions, traffic directions, road blocks as well as corrections to Points of Interest. Up-to-date traffic information is also available through an optional RDS-TMC traffic receiver.

TomTom claims a battery life of up to 3 hours operation for both navigators. The company also gives a map guarantee, ensuring users a free download if new maps are released during the first 30 days of using their new device.

The TomTom One 130 and 130S (text-to-speech) should be available in May 2008 for $200 and $250, respectively. The TomTom XL 330 and 330S (text-to-speech) should be available in May 2008 for $250 and $300, respectively.
