The Asus M536 is a bullet-proof sedan to the Asus ZX1's supercar frame. Does it drive just as nice?

Asus m536 Specs »  Gallery »
Asus m536 The Asus m536 is a lot like the Asus ZX1 Lamborghini phone without the extreme styling, but with more security thrown in. Instead of a Murcielago, this is more like a Mercedes sedan. Features are very similar, including GPS and a 3-megapixel camera, as well as some graphical touch-ups to the Windows Mobile 6.1 interface. Also, the phone uses a fingerprint scanner to lock the device. It's an interesting idea, and perhaps makes more sense on a phone, where typing a password can be a pain, than on a laptop. In our hands-on time at CTIA 2008, we enjoyed the device's sharp screen, which packs an unusual 320 by 320 resolution, but also features a slew of touch buttons right beneath the touch screen. These weren't quite sensitive enough for us, so much so that we didn't realize that were touch buttons at first, but touch sensitivity can be wonky at groping trade shows. Release: August 2008. Price: $800.
Pros: Fingerprint scanner, nice idea on a phone. Interface improved from standard Windows Mobile 6.1.
Cons: Hopefully the price can come down, and we'll see U.S. 3G bands on this device.
