Jabra, Plantronics unveil new Bluetooth headsetsBy Sindre Lia, Tuesday 1 April 2008
Several leading accessory makers have announced new products on the first day of CTIA 2008, including Bluetooth headsets and HSPA data cards with GPS.

At CTIA Wireless 2008 in Las Vegas today, companies such as Plantronics, Jabra, SoundID and Novatel Wireless announced new additions to their respective cell phone accessory lineups.

Plantronics today presented the Discovery 925 Bluetooth earpiece collection, a signature line of designer headsets for both men and women. Featuring a range of technologies such as AudioIQ noise reduction and QuickPair, the collection was first introduced at the Spring 2008 New York Fashion Week. The headset's focus on fashion is emphasized by being offered in Onyx Black, Alchemy Gold and Cerise Pink. Its VFrame design, structured to follow the contours of the face and draw the microphone closer to the mouth, also promises to set the Discovery 925 apart from the Bluetooth headset crowd. The Discovery 925 will be available in April 2008 for $150.

Novatel's Ovation MC990D and MC992D USB modems combine HSPA connectivity, GPS radios and microSD slots. The MC990D operates on European 900/2100 MHz bands, while the MC992D operates on North American 850/1900 MHz bands. Both USB modems measures 70 by 25 by 13.5 mm, and offers peak download speeds of up 7.2 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 5.76 Mbps. The MC992D will likely be picked up by AT&T in Q3 2008.

Jabra's BT4010 made its debut in Las Vegas today, promising a cheap Bluetooth headset without compromising too much on technology. The BT4010 features a "smart display" enabling users to check battery level, connection status and call status. Offering up to 6 hours of talk time, the BT4010 measures 2 by 0.67 by 1.1 inches and weighs in at 0.35 ounces. The BT4010 is expected to be available later this spring for $60.

SoundID expects to ship its new HD300 Bluetooth headset in Q3 2008, sporting technology such as NoiseNavigation, PersonalSound and Automatic Volume control. The latter is claimed to eliminate the need for constant volume adjustments in variable noise situations such as driving. Measuring 2.1 by 0.6 by 0.3 inches and weighing 0.28 ounces, the HD300 will provide up to 6 hours of talk time. It will come with three sizes of RealComfort EarLoops and an Ear Hook for an alternative over-the-ear wearing option. The HD300 has a suggested retail price of $120.
