Motorola's DH01 device is surprising in how little it can actually do. It is basically a portable media player with a TV tuner. A couple years ago, that might have been impressive, but today portable media players do so much more than just play videos, music and pics. The DH01 is not a small device, either. We liked the 4.3-inch screen, and television looked good streaming over the two channels Motorola had set up here in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress. But the clips of "Casino Royale" we watched still looked a little pixelated, though they ran smoothly. For such a thick device, though, we want Wi-Fi, and perhaps GPS. We'd also like more internal memory, as the DH01 can only buffer about 5 minutes of live TV, when it should have full DVR capabilities. This is an early model, and Motorola's first foray into the mobile TV market, which they think will be a popular segment. Hopefully their next entry will be more impressive. Release: July 2008.
Pros: Plays videos and DVB-H TV on a colorful, wide screen. Records TV onto SD cards.
Cons: Where are the rest of the features? Video didn't look perfect, not good enough for a dedicated mobile TV device.
