Though the Toshiba Portege G810 probably won't make it to the U.S., it's always interesting to see how an innovative company adapts Windows Mobile to their audience. For Toshiba, that means some enhanced menus, as well a few helpfully redrawn apps to make the experience more pretty, and much easier to touch. We liked the large icons Toshiba uses for the menus, and found the touchscreen to be pretty responsive in our hands-on time. Of course, beneath the surface lurks Windows Mobile 6, which is not the most touch-friendly interface, but Toshiba has taken some good strides to make the experience more usable. We wish they would have included at least one button, though. We like a good touchscreen, but the touch sensitive buttons on the phone left something to be desired, as touch sensitive buttons usually do. Release: June 2008. Price: $720.
Pros: Large, 2.8-inch screen. 3-megapixel camera. Nice menus and additions to make WinMo more usable.
Cons: Touch buttons weren't responsive enough. Still Windows Mobile, with its tiny, onscreen keyboard for typing.
