After playing with the FX35 for a short while, we did a double take upon review of the stats; it is by far the smallest and lightest 720p camera we've ever used. The 10.1-megapixel point-and-shoot features a 25mm wide-angle 4x optical zoom lens, in addition to all the standard shooting features present on Panasonic's newest Lumix cameras. But the main focus of the FX line is to stuff as many high-quality features into a slim and stylish package, which the FX35 certainly does, highlighted by its HD video recording mode. While we can't speak for the video quality, we were simply impressed by the fact that such a tiny camera could pull off HD video. We loved that video could be output directly from the camera in 720p, but were disappointed it required an optional component (not even HDMI) cable, the DMW-HDC2. We hope Panasonic adds zoom capabilities during recording, but we liked the placement of the zoom ring as well as the recessed selector wheel. Release: March 2008. Price: $300.
Pros: 720p video recording, slime and sleek design, HD video output directly from camera
Cons: No zooming while recording video, optional cable required for HD output
