Taking advantage of Gracenote's album cover and CD track information database, Ford's next generation system uses a steering wheel remote and a rear-view mirror microphone to allow full hands-free operation. When not using voice commands, the touchscreen navigates users through the intuitive interface, which recognizes nicknames for songs and is programmed to recognize inherently human responses. We liked the idea and implementation onto Ford's hardware for the most part, but we couldn't understand why the only way that music could be loaded onto the unit's hard disk was by ripping CDs. Forcing users with considerable music collections to import everything from CDs seems both cruel and unusual. Release: July 2008.
Pros: Intuitive interface, steering wheel remote and rear-view microphone
Cons: Digital files must be imported via CD player
