All of Canon's new A-series budget cameras, share features such as 2.5-inch screen, 9-point Autofocus, face detection, motion detection technology, red eye correction and the proprietary DIGIC III imaging processor. The cameras also support Canon's new Sunset shooting mode, and images are stored to SD, SDHC, MMC, MMC+ or HC MMC+ memory cards. In addition, the A590 IS and A580 have received a new "Easy mode", which is claimed to simplify camera operation beyond the standard Full Auto mode.
Canon PowerShot A590 IS
The 8-megapixel A590 IS features a 4x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization, and works with three optional converter lenses: a 1.75x tele-converter, a 0.7x wide converter and a 52mm close-up lens for macro photography. The converter lenses attach over the camera's zoom lens by means of an optional conversion lens adapter. The Canon PowerShot A590 IS will be available in black for about $180 in March 2008.
Canon PowerShot A580
Sharing most of the features and visual virtues of its image stabilized sibling, including the 4x optical zoom lens, the PowerShot A580 camera features an 8-megapixel CCD-type image sensor, the option of fully automatic or semi-automatic settings and 16 shooting modes. The Canon PowerShot A580 will be available in silver for about $150 in March 2008.
Canon PowerShot A470
The successor to last year's A460 camera, the new 7.1-megapixel A470 model has undergone an external makeover, matched by a number of internal enhancements and advancements. The A470 comes in four different colors (blue, red, orange and gray), and features a 3.4x optical zoom lens as well as 14 shooting modes. The Canon PowerShot A470 will be available for about $130 in March 2008.
