Olympus has announced the newest update to their SP line, the SP-570 UZ digital camera, a superzoom with an impressive 20x, wide-angle optical zoom and 10-megapixel sensor.
The SP-570 UZ offers the all the manual controls we've come to expect on a high-end superzoom, but with a new zoom ring and hotshoe for external flash, high speed shooting, pre-capture and what Olympus calls "Perfect Shot Preview."
The SP-570 UZ's hotshoe allows the connection of an external flash or speedlight, adding lighting flexibility similar to an SLR, even going so far as to support wireless flashes. It's also capable of capturing images at 13.5 fps (albeit only at 3-megapixel resolution). The camera's pre-capture feature works in conjunction with its high-speed sequential shooting mode and starts caching images as soon as the focus is locked, allowing users to capture photos even when they are too slow to depress the shutter at the right time.
For users beginning to experiment with the manual controls, the SP-570 UZ's "Perfect Shot Preview" mode allows them to preview and select photographic effects like exposure compensation, white balance and metering on a live, multi-window screen before taking the photo, showing them what the image will look like if the selected adjustments are made.
The SP-570 UZ will be available in March 2008 for $500 and will include a neck strap, USB cable, A/V cable, four AA batteries, a manual, warranty card and software CD-ROM.
