This 17-inch beast, unveiled at CES, is ASUS' biggest and baddest new gaming laptop. The 2-hinge adds a touch of style to the design, as do the blue LED lights adjacent to the keyboard. The key spec is Nvidia's GeForce 8700 running in SLI -- that is, two of them working in tandem. This looks to be a solid gaming notebook, although like all ASUS laptops, you can neither customize your machine nor buy direct. Release: March 2008. Price: $2000.
Pros: SLI graphics
Cons: Can't customize, must buy from third party

This 15.4-inch mainstream notebook was introduced at CES and has hits all the major spec points -- Intel's latest 45nm Penryn processor, an Nvidia GeForce 9500M graphics chip and 3GB of DDR2 memory -- but the real test for a notebook in the 15.4-inch space is price, and it remains to be seen how the M50Sv will be able to compete with the steep discounts bigger OEMs can offer. Release: March 2008. Price: $1750.
Pros: Power CPU, GPU
Cons: May not be able to compete on price with US OEMs
