Apple has announced a price cut for the hardware as well as upgrading it with iTunes movie rental support.
Apple has released new software for its Apple TV set-top box, which allows users to rent movies on the iTunes store directly from their TV. The Apple TV has also received a price cut, as it now sells for $229.
The iTunes store offers a catalog of over 1,000 movie titles that can be rented, including over 100 titles in HD video with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. DVD-quality iTunes Movie Rentals are $2.99 for library titles and $3.99 for new releases, while HD versions costs $3.99 and $4.99, respectively.
Apple will provide the new Apple TV software free of charge to existing Apple TV owners, when it releases the new $229 Apple TV in late January 2008.
