A trio of ultra-thin digital cameras was released during CES, but which one impressed us the most during our preview time?
| Casio Exilim Card EX-S10 |
Specs » Gallery » |
The Casio Exilim Card EX-S10's strengths lie in its attractive styling, it automatic-shutter modes, and its top-notch video. It's image quality isn't quite as notable for its price-point - we would have preferred its larger sensor be wed to fewer pixels for better noise-management and more dynamic contrast - but its photographs are by no means a deal breaker. For those searching for a cool looking camera that takes good photos and packs features galore, the EX-S10 could fit the bill. Release: March 2008. Price: $250.
Pros: Nice looking. Good auto-shutter modes. Above average video quality. Very thin.
Cons: Pictures are a bit noisy. Sub-par viewfinder.

| FujiFilm FinePix z100fd |
Specs » Gallery » |
Fujifilm’s FinePix Z100fd is stylish, has a cool on/off mechanism, and packs a collection of innovative features, but if you tend to change settings often, its interface just might make you tear your hair out. Unfortunately, the soft and chromatically inaccurate image-quality fails to make up for the camera’s aggravating interface, so for most users there are better point-and-shoots to be found. Release: February 2008. Price: $200.
Pros: Engaging design, optical image-stabilization, interesting shooting-aides.
Cons: Troublesome interface, no manual-mode, soft image-quality, consistently high color-temperature.

| Samsung NV30 |
Specs » Gallery » |
A clone of the NV40 (which was absent from Samsung's booth) with a smaller 8.1-megapixel sensor, the NV30 is merely a "speed bump" to their NV line. They've tinkered with the interface a bit, but their main update is their new DRIM Engine image processor. We like the 3x zoom Schneider lenses, and we're huge fans of the NV series' Smart Touch buttons, but there isn't much new here to get excited about. Release: April 2008. Price: $230.
Pros: DRIM Engine image processor, Smart Touch buttons
Cons: Little improvement over NV20
