Best Samsung cameras of CES 2008By Staff, 10 January 2008
Samsung unveiled a range of new digital cameras at CES this year, including an ultra compact HD camera. Check out our hands-on impressions.

Samsung NV24HD Specs »  Gallery »
Samsung NV24HD The first appearance of HD video on a samsung point-and-shoot digital camera, the NC24HD seems to have all the right numbers. With 720p video shooting, 30fps and 10.1-megapixels in their stylish NV frame, we're excited to get a hold of one for longer than a few minutes on the show floor, to see if the extra time it took Samsung to join the DSC HD video market gave it a leg up on its competitors. Release: May 2008. Price: $350.
Pros: HD video, concealable flash
Cons: Video only up to 720p

Samsung NV4 Specs »  Gallery »
Samsung NV4 The Samsung NV4's best feature is its array of filters and customization options, so you can use it as a simple point-and-shoot but still get creative results (assuming you're creative). It lacks optical image-stabilization, but its advanced form of digital stabilization isn't a complete write-off. Image quality in fair conditions was quite good, at least when it comes to portrait photography. We didn't really like the irksomely tiny buttons though, which along with the inner zoom lens revealed the camera's focus on thinness and compactness. Still, the filters and customization should save the day for point-and-shooters who enjoy taking pictures of friends and family with an artistic slant. Release: April 2008. Price: $190.
Pros: Stylish looks. Filters and customization galore.
Cons: Buttons suitable for toothpicks. Lacking in camera features, yet has unnecessary media playback. Even suped-up digital stabilization doesn't replace optical stabilization.

Samsung GX-10 Specs »  Gallery »
Samsung GX-10 The GX-10 is a Samsung DSLR that packs a 10.2-megapixel sensor with mechanical optical image stabilization. Water and dust resistant, the GX-10 is due to receive an update within the next month; Samsung plans to reveal specs, images and pricing on the GX-20 in the days leading up to the Photo Marketing Association conference in Las Vegas at the end of January '08. Release: January 2007. Price: $900.
Pros: Optical Image Stabilization, soon to be updated

Samsung i8 Specs »  Gallery »
Samsung i8 Another PMP-enabled Samsung camera, the i8 is a rounded, compact point-and-shoot offered in multiple colors. We loved the design of the back panel, as the black background surrounding the panel made colors on the 2.7-inch LCD jump out of the screen. The internal zoom lens makes for a slim design, but image quality tends to suffer. Aesthetically this is one of our favorite Samsung cameras, but its features don't excite us nearly as much. Release: April 2008. Price: $250.
Pros: PMP functionality, aesthetically pleasing design
Cons: PMP functionality is awkward

Samsung NV30 Specs »  Gallery »
Samsung NV30 A clone of the NV40 (which was absent from Samsung's booth) with a smaller 8.1-megapixel sensor, the NV30 is merely a "speed bump" to their NV line. They've tinkered with the interface a bit, but their main update is their new DRIM Engine image processor. We like the 3x zoom Schneider lenses, and we're huge fans of the NV series' Smart Touch buttons, but there isn't much new here to get excited about. Release: April 2008. Price: $230.
Pros: DRIM Engine image processor, Smart Touch buttons
Cons: Little improvement over NV20

Samsung L210 Specs »  Gallery »
Samsung L210 The nicest addition to the L-series debuting at CES (others include the L110 and L100), the L210 is a budget point-and-shoot designed for entry-level users. Its appeal is centered around the face detection, self portrait and auto red eye fix features at its price point of $280. We were most impressed with its high-resolution (800x592) SVGA video mode, although we prefer widescreen ratios. Release: April 2008. Price: $200.
Pros: High-resolution video mode, good features for entry-level line
Cons: No standout features
