Hands-on impressions

We were initially impressed by the kick-flip form on the MOTO Z8, but the Z10 feels a bit half-baked. The phone felt rickety in our hands, the polished accents felt cheap, not, well, polished. We're curious about what Motorola might have done with Symbian UIQ, now that they own half of the company, and we're obviously impressed by the phone's camera and video features. But perhaps the kick-flip form needs more time in the oven. Release: August 2008. Price: $500.
Pros: 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus. Innovative kick-flip form. Updated UIQ multimedia smartphone interface.
Cons: Phone felt flimsy in our hands, and a bit large. UIQ has frustrated us in the past. No American 3G support.

Motorola today announced the MOTO Z10, which promises easier capturing, editing and sharing of videos and images than previous Motorola phones. The Z10 slider can upload content directly to sites such as YouTube, Google, Yahoo! and ShoZu.
In addition to creating videos, MOTO Z10 features media playback capabilities, and a 2.2" QVGA screen displays video at 30 fps, while a memory card slot can hold 32GB memory cards.
Motorola has also incorporated a 3.2-megapixel camera and autofocus, and the latter suggests we can hope for better image quality with this phone than most other Motorola phones.
Powered by Symbian UIQ, the MOTO Z10 will also operate on HSDPA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks. Unfortunately, there's no support for AT&T's HSDPA network though, but it does offer Quad-band GSM support. Motorola also promises five hours of talk time, five hours of video playback time and twelve hours of music playback time.
There's no word on pricing, but the Motorola MOTO Z10 is expected to be available as an unlocked phone in Q1 2008.
