Aiming to increase the performance and reliability of streaming and storage of media at home, Netgear unveils a myriad of new consumer solutions.
Netgear is introducing its family of next-generation Wireless-N networking solutions, expanding its line of wired and wireless network bridges and extenders, and launching a family of network-attached storage devices for consumers at CES 2008 in Las Vegas.
Netgear's new line-up of RangeMax Wireless-N routers includes the Dual Band (WNDR3300), Gigabit (WNR3500) and Dual Band USB 2.0 adapter (WNDA3100). The WNDR3300 supports 5 GHz Wireless-N, enabling the router to avoid interference from neighboring Wi-Fi networks and maximise wireless performance and range. The WNR3500 incorporates a fast five-port 10/100/1000 Mbps switch, and Automatic Quality of Service (QoS) is supposed to ensure reliable network connectivity. The WNDA3100 adapter enables users to upgrade their notebook or desktop PCs to dual-band Wireless-N.
Netgear also announced that it will soon offer a Wireless-N MoCA router (WNMR834), which will simultaneously provide a Wireless-N network infrastructure and enable consumers to use their existing in-home cable TV coaxial outlets to distribute high-def digital video and multimedia, at a raw data rate of 270 Mbps, to HDTVs, set-top-boxes, computers and other networked devices.
Netgear also unveiled several network bridges and extenders, including the HD/Gaming 5 GHz Wireless-N Networking Kit for gamers (WNHDEB111), the Plastic Optical Fiber Ethernet Adapter (PF101) for home entertainment enthusiasts, as well as the 5 GHz Wireless-N HD Access Point/Bridge (WNHDE111) and the Wireless Signal Extender (WPN824EXT) for upgrading existing routers.
A range of new network storage devices were also introduced, including the ReadyNAS Duo 500GB, 750GB and 1TB models. These devices are storage solutions that enable consumers to centralize, organize and share digital media in the home without the requirement of a host computer. By connecting any digital camera to the front-mounted USB port, the ReadyNAS Duo will for instance also easily copy the photos and make them available to all connected computers, smartphones and other network-enabled devices in the home or across the Internet.
ReadyNAS Duo also provides integrated support for BitTorrent, enabling users to download digital content directly to the ReadyNAS Duo. To protect valuable digital media, the ReadyNAS Duo can optionally be equipped with a second drive to protect against data loss using Netgear's proprietary X-RAID technology.
